Turkish army uses only domestically produced communication systems and software, Turkish Defence Ministry sources have said in response to journalists’ questions about whether there is a risk to equipment used by the Turkish Armed Forces following the recent spate of communication equipment explosions in Lebanon unleashed by Israel against members of Hezbollah.
‘In case a third party is involved in the production process, we have additional control mechanisms in the allocation and production process,’ said the sources quoted by media in Turkey after the chain of explosions in Lebanon that affected pagers and walkie-talkies used by thousands of Hezbollah militants, leaving at least 32 dead – two of them children – and more than 3,000 wounded, in an operation attributed to Israeli secret services.
The defence sources consulted added, however, that in light of recent events in Lebanon but also the conflict in Ukraine, all security measures are being reviewed, including those relating to the supply and use of communication systems for the Turkish army. ‘Our armed forces have become much stronger in recent years thanks to the contribution of Turkish engineers in fields such as communications, IT, electronic warfare and cyber warfare,’ the ministerial source stressed.
