Hundreds of people queued since late yesterday at several shopping centres in Istanbul in the hope of being the first to buy the new iPhone 16, Apple’s latest smartphone model to go on sale today in Turkey.
Arriving from all over the city, numerous people queued since yesterday evening at an Apple Store located in Kadıköy and a shopping centre located in Üsküdar – both districts located on the Asian side of Istanbul – to be able to buy the latest model unveiled this month by Apple, which aims to revolutionise the market with its new Artificial Intelligence (AI) features.
‘Every year it’s the same… I live in Zeytinburnu (on the European side of Istanbul) and I’ve been waiting in line here since 23:30 (yesterday),’ Ali Zaman told Turkish news agencies, adding that he was eager to try out the new AI-powered features of the new iPhone.
Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the new iPhone 16 series at the company’s annual event on 9 September, where Cook promised that the new AI-powered features will bring ‘innovations that will make a real difference in people’s lives’. The four new launched models of the new iPhone 16 are being sold in Turkey for between 65,000 and 120,000 liras: that is, a price between 1,700 and 3,150 euros.
