Turkey has consolidated its position as a filming location for foreign films, with a total of 223 non-Turkish productions filmed in the country last year alone, representing a 46 per cent increase compared to 2021, according to data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The productions shot in Turkey include 16 foreign films and 42 foreign series – some of them by Hollywood industry – and 102 documentaries.
Turkey’s consolidation as a favourite destination for shooting foreign films and series has been possible thanks to the new law supporting foreign film productions, and the promotional campaigns carried out by the ministry; not to mention the scenery and landscapes that Turkey offers, or the filming teams and sets of its own Turkish series and films production industry, considered among the best in the world. In fact, Turkey currently exports its series to all countries in the world, being second only to the United States, and reaping great success in Latin America.
Successful foreign films filmed in recent years in Turkey include such well-known films as “Argo”, “Skyfall“, “Charlie’s Angels“, “Inferno“, Russell Crowe‘s “The Water Diviner”. Most recently “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare”, a film set in World War II directed by Guy Ritchie, was filmed in Antalya.
