The desire to travel to Turkey is double among those who watch Turkish series, says a study by Netflix.
The probability that a person who follows a Turkish series will decide to travel to Turkey is twice that of those who do not watch Turkish series, according to a study carried out by the well-known streaming platform Netflix that analyses the impact on Turkish tourism of the increasingly popular Turkish soap operas.
The conclusions are based on a study carried out in 8 countries -the United States, India, Australia, Brazil, France, Sweden, Argentina and Saudi Arabia- in which the participants were divided into two groups: on one hand, those who watched Turkish series on Netflix, and on other, those users of the platform who did not watch any Turkish series.
Both groups were then asked how likely they were to travel to Turkey for tourism after the end of the pandemic; the results were enlightening and showed that while in the first group 54% answered affirmatively, in the second – who did not watch Turkish series – only 25% said they were thinking of travelling to the Eurasian country. It was the followers of Turkish productions from Australia, the US, Saudi Arabia and India who showed the greatest interest in travelling to the country.
Turkey received a total of 51.9 million tourists in 2019, 13.7% more than in the previous year, 86.2% corresponding to foreign visitors and the rest to Turkish citizens residing outside the country, mainly in Europe, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute. The Turkish government’s tourism revenue totalled more than 29 billion euros last year, a historic record.
The popularity of Turkish series has not stopped growing in the last years. Netflix has embarked on the production of several original series produced in Turkey, and the platform currently offers several Turkish seres, including Resurrection: Ertugrul, Rise of Empires: Ottoman, Masum, The Gift, The Protector, Black Money Love, Love 101, Börü…
