“Rise of Empires: Ottoman”, the new Netflix series, will focus on the life of Sultan Mehmet II, who conquered Constantinople (Istanbul), and will star Tuba Büyüküstün.
The final years of the Byzantine Empire and the fall of Constantinople itself, which marks the rising of the new Ottoman Empire, will be the central theme of Netflix‘s new Turkish series, “Rise of Empires: Ottoman”, in which one of the protagonists will be the famous Turkish actress Tuba Büyüküstün.
The series, as occurs with Netflix’s historical production “The Roman Empire”, will have a double format as a drama and as a documentary; it will initially consist of six episodes and will be originally shot in English to have a more international format.
Directed by the Turkish Emmy-winning director Emre Şahin, the main protagonists of this new production that will be released on January 24 on the Netflix platform will be the Turkish actors Tuba Büyüküstün and Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu, who will play the role of Ottoman Sultan Mehmet II the Conqueror , who led the siege and final capture of Constantinople, the current Istanbul. The script is written by Celal Şengör and Emrah Safa Gürkan.
The argument of this new Turkish series revolves around the period in which the new Ottoman Sultan Mehmet II, which already dominated the territories of Western Anatolia and Thrace, embarks on a campaign for the conquest of Constantinople, the last stronghold of the Byzantine Empire, which will finally fall into Ottoman hands in 1453.
