Famous Turkish actor Cüneyt Arkın dies at 85 after cardiac arrest

Cüneyt Arkın, one of Turkey’s most famous actors, died at the age of 85 after suffering cardiac arrest in Istanbul. Cüneyt Arkın was one of the most iconic actors in Turkish cinema.

He died today in a hospital in Beşiktaş (Istanbul), where he had been transferred by ambulance. He was known for starring in many films and becoming a key figure in Turkish cinema. At 85 years of age, Cüneyt Arkın was the artistic name of Fahrettin Cüreklibatır, his real name; born in 1937 in the Turkish province of Eskişehir, Arkın starred in hundreds of films throughout his long career, standing out in action roles and dramas.

Gurbet Kuşları (The Birds of Exile, 1964), İnsanlar Yaşadıkça (The Lives of the People, 1969),Yaralı Kurt (The Wounded Wolf, 1973), Mağlup Edilemeyenler (The Invincibles, 1976), Maden (The Mine, 1978) or Vatandaş Rıza (Citizen Rıza, 1979), are some of the films that marked Arkın’s life as an actor, during which he received several prestigious awards.
