Kaputaş, Antalya: one of the best beaches in Europe

Situated in the district of Kaş, in Antalya, and regarded as one of the most iconic tourist destinations in Turkey, Kaputaş Beach has established itself as a favourite spot for both domestic and international tourists. Indeed, thanks to its deep turquoise waters and golden sand, this beach is considered to be one of the best in Europe.

Situated 20 kilometres from the district of Kaş and approximately 7 kilometres from Kalkan, in the tourist province of Antalya, the beach lies right at the point where a huge canyon opens out into the sea. Its characteristic turquoise waters and golden sand have made it one of the most visited spots, attracting thousands of Turkish and foreign tourists every year.

It can be reached by car, taxi or local minibus or via boat trips operating from Kaş and Kalkan. Access is via a staircase of 187 steps leading down from the D400 coastal road, but bear in mind that during the summer months the car park tends to fill up quickly, so it is advisable to arrive first thing in the morning.

In fact, parking – due to the area’s topographical constraints – is rather limited, and during the summer season – when the beach is packed practically around the clock – long queues and traffic jams of vehicles often form on the road leading to the beach. Many visitors, unable to find a parking space, simply leave their cars by the roadside and continue on foot to the beach.

A spot nestled on spectacular Turkish Riviera

As well as enjoying a swim in its famous turquoise waters, Kaputaş is an ideal spot for sunbathing, snorkelling and admiring one of the most beautiful coastal landscapes in the Turkish province of Antalya.

Thanks to its crystal-clear waters and the cliffs surrounding the cove, it is also one of the most photographed spots on the so-called Turkish Riviera. As a result, many tourists who prefer not to go down to the water’s edge make the most of the higher vantage points to photograph the spectacular colour of the sea and capture images of one of the most recognisable landscapes on the beautiful Turkish Mediterranean coast.

Those who do not simply wish to visit this beach but want to spend more time in the area usually look for accommodation in Kaş or Kalkan, two popular tourist destinations situated a short distance from the beach; from there, it is possible to organise boat trips along the coast, enjoy restaurants with views of the Mediterranean or take part in water sports such as diving.

Among the nearby places of interest that can – and should – be visited are the historic town of Kaş, which preserves remains of the ancient Lycian civilisation and a Roman amphitheatre, as well as the extensive beach at Patara and the ruins of the ancient Lycian city of the same name. In fact, many travellers make the most of their visit to Kaputaş to explore several of these sites in a single day, thereby discovering some of the most iconic landscapes in southern Türkiye.
