Antalya, one of the main tourist destinations in Turkey, famous for its beaches, good weather, natural beauties and huge historical heritage, broke a tourism record this weekend, welcoming by plane more than 102,000 foreign tourists in a single day – the highest number ever recorded in a single month of July.
“On July 19, a total of 102,006 foreign tourists arrived through Antalya and Gazipaşa airports. This figure marks the highest number of international visitors ever recorded in a single day in July,” Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced via social media – quoted among others by the daily Milliyet – also highlighting the good tourism figures for the month, with 100,681 arrivals already recorded on 11 July.
“Antalya continues to be a shining star of world tourism with its sun, sea, historical heritage, unique nature and powerful tourism infrastructure,” the minister said, adding that this destination on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast could this year beat its all-time record number of tourists, recorded in August last year with 102,755 arrivals in a single day.
Antalya, the jewel of the Turkish Riviera
So far this year, some 7.8 million tourists have flown into Antalya, one of Turkey’s most popular sun and beach destinations, especially during the summer. Located on the southwest coast of Turkey, Antalya is one of the key tourist spots on the so-called ‘Turkish Riviera’ or ‘Turquoise Coast’. The city is notable for its old town (Kaleiçi), and within it monuments such as Hadrian’s Gate, the clock tower and the fluted minaret of the Yivli Mosque. The old harbour is also a major attraction for visitors.
On the natural side, Antalya offers some of the most beautiful beaches in Turkey, such as Konyaaltı or Lara, with crystal clear waters and first class tourist facilities. Not far from the city you can also visit spectacular sites such as the Düden waterfalls, the Greco-Roman ruins of Perge or Termessos, or the National Park of Beydağları or Mount Olympus.
Its Mediterranean climate – with long, hot summers and mild winters – and a modern hotel infrastructure, together with a varied offer of culture, entertainment and restaurants, explain why Antalya is one of Turkey’s most sought-after tourist destinations, being especially popular among tourists from Europe and Russia. In 2024, Antalya welcomed 17.28 million tourists – led by Russians – and, for the first time, more than one million Turks living abroad also visited Antalya last year.
