Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan reiterated his call for the international community to unite in confronting Israel’s massacres and “genocide“ in Gaza, while again comparing Netanyahu‘s crimes to those of Hitler during World War II, insisting that the Israeli prime minister “long ago surpassed Hitler in barbarity”.
During a speech today at the opening of the 17th edition of the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) in Istanbul, reported by numerous Turkish media, Erdoğan insisted that Turkey‘s top concern is to end the blockade and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza to alleviate the plight of Palestinian children, as well as denouncing “Israel’s genocide against the people of Gaza, which has far surpassed that of the Nazis“.
“The plight of the children of Gaza, who are emaciated by hunger because they are not allowed to receive humanitarian aid, is of concern to us. We continue to keep Israel’s genocide against the people of Gaza, which far exceeds that of the Nazis, on the agenda of all humanity. Our goal is to achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible. Allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza is another priority for us,” the Turkish president said in his speech.
“Anyone who remains silent about the genocide in Gaza is complicit in Israel’s crimes against humanity. Every day, dozens of innocent people are left without a morsel of bread or a sip of water. Let us all react to this cruelty. Let us say ‘enough is enough’ to this cruelty and barbarism. Unfortunately, this is a truly horrible situation, where even the Red Cross is being refused entry”.
“I have said it before: Netanyahu and his network of massacres have far surpassed Hitler in barbarity. Not even during the Holocaust in Europe were the inhuman scenes in Gaza revealed. No one with a minimum of human dignity can accept, remain silent or consent to this state of madness, a cruelty in which dozens of innocent people die every day simply because they cannot find a morsel of bread or a sip of water,” Erdoğan continued.
Israel refuses to stop war despite Gaza famine
In the last 24 hours, hospitals in Gaza have recorded at least 15 new deaths from hunger and malnutrition, including four children, amid an unprecedented humanitarian crisis caused by the blockade on the entry of humanitarian aid, which only trickles in through a delivery system that the international community and humanitarian agencies have denounced as insufficient and ineffective.
On Sunday alone, 73 people were killed and some 150 injured in Gaza after Israeli soldiers fired on them as they tried to get food. “The last lifelines that are keeping people alive are collapsing,” said Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The World Food Programme has also denounced that famine in the Strip has reached alarming levels and that 1 in 3 Palestinians in Gaza “is not eating for multiple days in a row“. “Doctors, nurses, journalists and humanitarians are hungry. Many are now fainting due to hunger and exhaustion while performing their duties: reporting atrocities or alleviating some of the suffering. Meanwhile, seeking food has become as deadly as the bombardments,” the UN agency for Palestinian refugees denounced in a statement.
AFP itself has announced plans to evacuate its journalists in Gaza because of the risk of facing starvation. Meanwhile, Israel has ignored the call made by 25 countries – including France, Spain (as well as the EU itself), the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Japan – demanding from Netanyahu’s government that war in Gaza “must end now“, in the face of the civilian population’s problems in accessing humanitarian aid and the “inhumane killing of civilians, including children“.
