Turkey, Roman tombs in Mersin

Ancient Roman tombs Mersin, Turkey, defy time

The ancient monumental Roman tombs of the historical region of Cilicia, in the current Turkish province of Mersin, continue to rise 2,000 years later, defying time. They were built between the 2nd and 3rd centuries by wealthy Roman families who lived in Cilicia. However, despite being visited by many tourists and curious people who come to admire these impressive monuments, archaeologists warn that if they are not restored soon, an earthquake could destroy many of the tombs.
