The Daesh terrorist group claimed responsibility in the last hours for the twin terrorist bomb attack that killed more than 80 people in Iran yesterday, according to the latest updated data provided by the Iranian regime, during a crowded ceremony organised in the Iranian town of Kerman in tribute to General Qassem Soleimani, on the occasion of his assassination four years ago during a US drone attack in Iraq.
In a statement posted on its Telegram profiles, Daesh confirmed responsibility for both blasts; according to investigators, they occurred at 14:45 local time (12:45 CET) about 700 metres away from the tomb where Soleimani’s remains lie, and Iranian authorities believe they were probably committed by suicide bombers who detonated explosives-laden backpacks, with the second blast occurring a few minutes later as crowds of people came to the aid of the victims of the first. Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had yesterday blamed Tehran’s “evil and criminal enemies” – referring to the US and Israel – promising a “harsh response.”
