Turkish intelligence services have reportedly warned Israel against any attempt to attack Hamas targets in Turkey, according to intelligence sources in Ankara quoted by the Turkish press, who said the Israeli state would face “very serious consequences“.
The warning from the National Intelligence Organisation (MİT) comes after the head of Israel’s domestic intelligence service (the Shabak, or Shin Bet), Ronen Bar, announced two days ago on Israeli state television that Israel has already has initiated plans to assassinate Hamas members living outside Gaza and the West Bank.
Bar echoed similar remarks made last month by Prime Minister Netanyahu and his defence minister: “In every place, in Gaza, in the West Bank, in Lebanon, in Turkey, in Qatar, everywhere… It will take a few years, but we will go there and we will do it,” the head of Israel’s secret services said.
In response to these and other statements by Israeli officials, Turkey’s secret services have reportedly already issued the “necessary warnings” to the relevant authorities in Israel regarding possible infiltration into Turkish territory to carry out target assassinations against Hamas – plans that Bar compared to the assassinations against members of the Black September terrorist group after the Munich massacre in 1972. According to Turkish media, Ankara reportedly warned its counterparts in Israel that any such action by Israeli secret services on Turkish territory would have very serious repercussions, recalling that similar plans by other countries were foiled by the Turkish MİT.
