The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey has announced the extension of the night visits to Museums and Monuments programme – an initiative that allows visits to historical monuments after sunset – until 2 November at the archaeological sites of Ephesus and Side, as well as the famous Galata Tower in Istanbul.
Although the programme of night tours was initially scheduled to end on 1 October, the tours have been extended due to strong public interest, but limited to the three sites mentioned above. According to official ministry figures quoted by the Anatolia news agency, more than 550,000 people visited the museums and archaeological sites at night between June and September this year. Among the most visited sites are the ancient city of Ephesus and the Galata Tower, but also the archaeological sites of Hierapolis and Pamukkale.
“With night tours continuing in Ephesus, Side and the Galata Tower until 2 November, we invite everyone to enjoy this unique experience,” said Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.
One of the most impressive places in Turkey to visit at night is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ephesus, which can be visited from Wednesday to Saturday until 11pm. The Galata Tower, which offers spectacular panoramic views of Istanbul and the Bosphorus, will be open until 11pm, while the archaeological site of Side in Antalya can be visited until 10pm.
