More than 33 million tourists visited Turkey‘s museums and historical sites in 2025, according to the latest information provided by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, who also released the ranking of the top 5 most visited places in the country last year.
In a message published on his social networks, Ersoy stressed that “our museums in Turkey remained the cultural centres that best connect the past with the present in 2025. 33,129,106 tourists visited our museums”.
In a statement reported by the Anatolia news agency, the minister announced the five most visited museums and archaeological sites, ranking them as follows:
- Ephesus Archaeological Site – 2,550,458 visitors
- Hierapolis archaeological site (Pamukkale) – 2,299,914 visitors
- Göreme Archaeological Site (Cappadocia) – 1,184,285 visitors
- Archaeological valleys of Zelve-Paşabağlar (Cappadocia) – 1,141,219 visitors
- Galata Tower (Istanbul) – 951,338 visitors
Ersoy stressed that museums play a key role in learning, discovery and the preservation of collective memory, and assured that they continue to have a decisive influence on the cultural life of the country. In this sense, the minister pointed out that the government will continue to advance the so-called ‘Century of Turkey’ through initiatives that strengthen the fields of culture, art and tourism.
In parallel, the minister also reported that Turkey’s main sun and beach tourist destination, Antalya, closed 2025 with a new visitor record by receiving 17.12 million tourists, thus stringing together its second consecutive year of all-time highs after the milestone reached in 2024.
