An alleged member of the terrorist group ISIS was killed and his wife was injured during a shoot-out with special forces from the Turkish police who were carrying out a raid in an area on the outskirts of the Turkish capital, Ankara, according to the authorities.
As reported in the last few hours by the news channel AHaber, citing official sources, the shootout took place yesterday morning in the village of Sazağası, located in the district of Haymana, some 100 kilometres south of the capital, during an operation targeting suspects believed to belong to the self-proclaimed Islamic State. The exchange of fire began when the suspects opened fire on the officers as they were heading towards their home.
The alleged terrorist, identified as Muhammed K., aged 25, died as a result of the gunshot wounds he sustained during the armed confrontation, whilst his wife, identified by the initials N.K., was injured and arrested. Investigations revealed that Ismael J.K.A., regarded as the leader of the terrorist organisation, had sent instructions to Muhammed K. via the social media platform TikTok to carry out an upcoming attack.
It was also established that the deceased – who used two different accounts on the social media platform – was also participating in a chat room linked to a magazine that formed part of the ISIS structure, using an account under his own name. Through his second TikTok account, which operated under the username “sfyn.b..uyeyne”, he maintained direct contact with leaders of the terrorist group.
Turkish security forces arrested at least 209 terrorism suspects yesterday during a large-scale counter-terrorism operation carried out in Ankara, on the eve of the NATO summit scheduled for 7 and 8 July in the Turkish capital. Ankara is stepping up security ahead of the important NATO summit and has significantly increased its security measures, including a ban on any public gatherings or demonstrations throughout the province in the days leading up to and following the meeting.
