More than 2,000 detained in Turkey in a macro police raid

A total of 2. 066 suspects and fugitives from justice have been arrested during a major raid carried out in all 81 provinces of Turkey, Turkish Justice Minister Ali Yerlikaya himself announced today, noting that the operation dubbed “Çember-16” (Circle-16) has been carried out over the past four days and saw Turkish security forces arrest individuals suspects wanted for several years for crimes including theft, fraud, homicide, narcotics, terrorism, smuggling, organised crime and sexual assault.

The minister added that the macro police raid involved Turkish gendarmerie, police and coast guard personnel, and involved actions such as identity checks, searches of homes and workplaces, and roadblocks.
