27 Palestinian cancer patients and their companions arrived in Turkey early this morning by plane from Gaza after entering Egypt through the Rafah crossing point: they are the first group of Gazans to be received by Turkey so that they can continue to receive treatment for their disease. After being met in person in Egypt by Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, a medical doctor by profession, two Turkish Air Force planes flew them to Turkey, where they landed after midnight in Ankara.
Once in Turkey, the patients transferred from Gaza – most of them children – were visited this morning at Bilkent hospital in the capital by Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan, accompanied by Koca himself, who gave toys to the children with cancer and spent time with them.
Speaking to media, Koca stressed that apart from Egypt, Turkey is the first country to host Palestinian patients from Gaza so that they can continue to receive treatment. Turkey is also trying to bring more patients, especially children and babies. “We are determined to bring more patients, especially children and those with cancer, to Turkey. We are confident that more will arrive in the coming days,” the minister said.
