Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan accused on Wednesday again Israel of being “a terrorist state” and of committing “state terrorism” as well as genocide against the civilian population by the Israeli army’s brutal offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip: more than 11,000 Palestinians have already been killed there, including more than 4,000 children, to the point that the WHO reports that every 10 minutes a child dies in Gaza as a result of Israeli attacks or the lack of healthcare due to the collapse of the health system in the Strip, where there are hardly any hospitals operating.
Erdoğan claimed that Israel is pursuing a strategy based on “destroying an entire city and its population“, and again pointed out to Western countries for tolerating the actions of the Israeli army. “The West, in particular the United States, unfortunately shows another position (not criticising Israel). For example, France changes its stance; they act differently one day, and the next day they backtrack. Be honest, be like Turkey,” the Turkish president said in a speech in Ankara to deputies of his AKP party, in a clear reference to Macron‘s recent statements.
“War is not a word we can use to describe what is happening in Gaza,” the Turkish leader insisted, recalling that two-thirds of those killed in Gaza are women and children. “Even wars have ethical rules, laws and limits,” he added. The Turkish president also showed a video of the bombings in Gaza, saying: “What you see here is genocide unfolding. We will take this case to the International Criminal Court… The blood of the children killed in Gaza is now a stain of shame for those who give arms, ammunition and intelligence to Israel. Every day hundreds of children are killed by bombs, but not a single one, from the EU to the US, not a single one of those who claim to defend human rights says a single word,” he lamented.
“I say it clearly here: Israel is a terrorist state,” stressed Erdoğan, who challenged Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to make Israel’s nuclear arsenal public, after a minister in his cabinet recently suggested dropping an atomic bomb on Gaza: “Do you or do you not have an atomic bomb? I challenge Netanyahu to say so, but I doubt he can”. “We see Netanyahu surrounded by ministers in his appearances. He thinks the ministers are going to save him. But Netanyahu’s days are numbered… Your end is near, whether you have nuclear weapons or not,” Erdoğan asserted, drawing a strong applause from the members of his party.
