Gaza‘s health ministry announced today that the Strip’s health system has “completely collapsed” after weeks of siege of the Palestinian territory by the Israeli army, with dozens of wounded having to be treated every day due to bombardments while many hospitals are short of the most basic supplies or even have no anaesthesia left for surgery. There is also an urgent need for blood for transfusions.
“We have less than 48 hours before all the electrical generators in the hospitals run out of fuel,” said a ministry spokesman, stressing that the little aid that has been able to enter Gaza through the Egyptian Rafah crossing “is slow and cannot change what is happening”. “This is the worst situation in Gaza’s health system in its history,” the Palestinian official insisted. More than 30 health centres in the Strip, including the Indonesian Hospital, have had to stop treating patients due to lack of electricity or damage from shelling.
