Turkey called on Russia and Ukraine to return to the negotiating table immediately to end the war, once again stressing the importance of resuming the grain deal to ensure world food security. The message was included in an official statement issued after the meeting last night of the National Security Council chaired by Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan, which also emphasized that the escalation of tensions in the Black Sea does not benefit any of the parties.
During the meeting, in addition to addressing the war between Russia and Ukraine, an international appeal was also made to avoid any act against Islam “disguised as freedom of expression“, recalling that such actions are considered a hate crime by the United Nations and represent a offense to nearly 2 billion Muslims around the world, in a blatant reference to Quran burning acts that the government of Sweden has repeatedly authorized.
