Turkey moved up three places during 2025 in the European electric vehicle ranking to become the fourth largest European market for electric cars, with around 190,000 units sold, while maintaining a strong sixth position in the total car market (including combustion cars).
According to data for 2025 published by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), total passenger car sales in Europe – including the UK and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries – grew by 2.4% compared to 2024, exceeding 12.8 million units. In parallel, electric car sales increased by 29.7% to 2.59 million.
By country, figures released by ACEA also show that Türkiye achieved a historic rise in the European electric vehicle (EV) market, climbing three positions from the previous year to reach fourth place in Europe, with approximately 190,000 electric vehicles sold, according to Turkish media.
Specifically, with 189,868 electric car sales last year, Turkey managed to overtake established European markets such as Norway (172,231) and the Netherlands (156,139). Germany led the European EV market in 2025 with 545,142 units, followed by the UK (473,348) and France (326,922). In addition, the market share of electric vehicles in Türkiye stood at 17.5% of the total, slightly above the EU average of 17.4%.
In the total automotive market as a whole (including electric, hybrid and combustion cars), Turkey also set an absolute record with 1.42 million vehicles (10% more than in 2024), thus retaining sixth place in the European market and reaching its highest volume ever. Germany remained the market leader with 2.8 million vehicles, followed by the UK and France.
