A cat has gone viral on social media in Turkey, where ‘Tripot’ (‘tripod’ in Turkish) has become a phenomenon for his ability to run and move at full speed despite having only three legs, after one of them was amputated after he got trapped in a car engine.
Turkish media reported that the cat suffered the accident 6 months ago in the Yenimahalle district of Ankara, where a person rescued it and took it to veterinarian Şeyma Şahin, who despite all her efforts finally had to amputate one of the animal’s hind legs due to the injuries it had suffered. Şahin decided to adopt him because it would be difficult to find a home for him due to his condition, and named him Tripot (Tripod).
Since she took him in, Tripot has become a well-known cat in the neighbourhood, where, despite being one paw short, he is able to run and climb over any obstacle. The cat has also become famous on social media thanks to the publications of the vet, who says that far from being an invalid animal ‘he is a cat with a lot of energy who knows how to defend himself’, to the point that even dogs are afraid of him. ‘He is the pet of the whole neighbourhood. Everyone loves Tripot,’ says Şahin.
Precisely because of a post on social media, many users have questioned whether Tripot really moves as fast as he appears in a video posted on the veterinary clinic’s Instagram account, and have even suggested that the video was shot in fast motion, but Şahin denies this: ‘It wasn’t sped up. Tripot can really run that fast. We take him outside at certain times, so he can get some air while we watch him, and then he comes back,’ says the vet, who adds that the cat is “very energetic” and has a voracious appetite: “We can’t feed him here, he throws food at us”.
‘People with dogs are afraid of him, they don’t go near Tripot because he bites dogs. Our next door neighbour has a dog, and he doesn’t dare come in here with his dog. He is a very brave cat. Everybody loves him… Even if he only has 3 legs, that doesn’t change anything. He has a lot of temper, and he’s a very self-confident cat’.
