Turkey, cat enduring cold

The image of a cat freezing to death that has shocked Turkey

The image of a terrified cat that sought refuge from the Siberian cold that plagues eastern Turkey in a hot spring has gone viral on social media and has been widely reported in the media, with many Turks showing their sympathy for the animal.

Turkish media reported that the event took place in Altınkale, a town in the province of Sivas where some famous hot springs are located; the animal, with its face and body fur frozen and covered with ice due to the Siberian cold wave that is sweeping the region and that has left temperatures of about 10 ºC below zero, was seen with its paws stuck in the warm waters trying to save itself and recover its body temperature.

Finally a woman noticed the presence and condition of the cat, exhausted by the cold, and using a blanket she wrapped him up and decided to take him to a cosier place where he could recover: an image that has moved the whole of Turkey and that reminds us of the problems that many animals, especially pets, suffer when winter and low temperatures arrive.
