Istanbul police have begun using 23 luxury cars confiscated in operations against criminal organisations and illegal activities to patrol the streets. The vehicles, which began patrolling on 26 December, were previously inspected on the premises of the former Atatürk airport by Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, and Istanbul Police Chief Zafer Aktaş.
“These vehicles were handed over to our police by a court decision. From now on, the vehicles will be at the disposal of our police and at the service of our nation, not criminal organisations. I want to thank each of our heroic police officers who work hard to ensure peace in our country,” Yerlikaya wrote on his social media profile.
Among the 23 luxury cars confiscated from criminal gangs that Istanbul police have begun using are vehicles from brands such as BMW, Skoda, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, Audi, Porsche, Nissan, Peugeot, Volkswagen, Land Rover, Ferrari and Bentley. Also included is a motorbike from the American brand Harley Davidson.
