Turkish athletes bathe dressed in the Bosphorus to show respect

A group of about 30 professional Turkish swimmers calling themselves Boğaz’ın Efendileri (The Lords of the Bosphorus) meets every weekend in Istanbul at a point on the banks of the Bosphorus and dressed in formal clothes, to show their love and respect for the strait. On their last appointment they swam the 8 km way that separate Kireçburnu (Sarıyer) from Aşiyan (Bebek) defying the strong currents in the area, but they have been doing this for 3 years. “We do it to raise awareness, but we also take the necessary measures” they say, warning that only professional swimmers are trained enough to do this.
