Every Friday, members of an association of Western lovers meet in a cafe in Istanbul’s Samatya neighbourhood, dressed as cowboys, to watch and discuss cowboy movies. They are the real “cowboys of Istanbul“, and the association, founded 3 years ago by Hasan Karcı, actor, scriptwriter and director of dozens of films (including some Western ones), already has about 1,400 members who dress up as cowboys to “have the feeling of being a cowboy.” “There are a lot of Western lovers. We get that feeling when we watch the movies together: you know, the towns, the saloons, the deserts, the guns…” confesses Karcı.
