At least 36 dead and 85 injured: this is the provisional number of victims after two trains – one freight and the other with 350 passengers –collided last night on the outskirts of the city of Larisa, in Greece, on the route between Thessaloniki and Athens . The causes of the accident are still unknown, while rescue teams continue to find bodies and the Greek media describe the disaster as “the worst train accident in the history of Greece“. “I have never seen anything like this in my entire life. Hours later we continue removing bodies,” said an exhausted firefighter. Survivors of the collision say the train had stopped on the track when there was a huge impact and “the windows were blown out”.
