While Turkey continues to fight the almost 200 wildfires unleashed in the last week, Greece was fighting this morning to contain the wildfires that threaten the island of Euboea, the suburbs of Athens, and the ancient sanctuary of Olympia, forcing hundreds of people to evacuate and ending with the dwindling Greek forests. Firefighters claim to have fought “a battle throughout the night” to try to save the ruins of Olympia, while Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that “the country faces an unprecedented environmental crisis.”
