The Lake Van basin, the largest lake in Turkey located in the east of the country, is home to a rich biodiversity thanks to its unique environmental characteristics, including a large number of butterfly species found only in this region. There are many nature photographers, scientists and curious people who come here every year between April and September, when the different species can be seen flying. More than half of the 400 species of butterflies located in Turkey live in Van.
