TOGG dominates electric car market in Turkey

Turkey’s first 100% electric car, the TOGG, dominates the electric car market in Turkey and already outsells its foreign-branded rivals, according to the latest data released by the Automotive Dealers Association of Turkey (ODMD), which shows that a total of 4,145 units of the T10X model were sold in the Eurasian country in the first quarter of 2024.

Despite rising prices and inflation, the latest ODMD report shows that car sales in Turkey are maintaining a good pace and increased by 25.2% in the first quarter, with a total of 295,519 units sold in that period; of them,14,158 were 100% electric cars, whose sales increased by 275.9% compared to the January-March period last year.

The share of full electric cars in Turkey increased in one year from 2.1% to 6.1%, while hybrid cars increased from 11% to 14.2% of total sales in the country. Adding 100% electric vehicles, extended-range electric vehicles, hybrids, and other vehicles equipped with electric motors, they accounted for 21.3% of the total market in the first quarter of 2024.

TOGG, a consortium of several Turkish companies, launched in October 2022 the production of its T10X model, a SUV with a range of 523 km, and sold more than 4,000 units between January and March this year, almost twice as many as its nearest competitor. That means that almost 1 in 3 electric cars sold in Turkey in the first quarter of 2024 was a TOGG T10X. The Turkish brand recently unveiled at CES 2024 its new sedan-type model, the T10F, which is expected to go on sale in Europe in late 2025.
