Kandahar, the second largest city in Afghanistan, was taken late on Thursday by Taliban, who continue their unstoppable advance after the US withdrawal and are already only 150 km from Kabul, after having conquered 12 provincial capitals in just a week, including cities such as Herat (the 3rd most important in the country) or the strategic Ghazni, vital for communications between the south and west of the country with Kabul, where many embassies are reducing their staff in fear of an imminent fall of the city. Taliban advance against an Afghan army that barely offers resistance and is fleeing in retreat is causing the flight of thousands of refugees (400,000 so far this year), while the increasingly weak Afghan government asks international community for help to stop Taliban.
