The 16 buildings on the Quarantine Island (Karantina Adası, in Turkish) located in the Urla district of İzmir province, on the Turkish Aegean coast, will be restored by the authorities. With an area of 323,000 m2, the island is one of the few of its kind in the world and was operational between 1865 and 1950 to isolate people with contagious diseases who arrived by boat. Its state-of-the-art facilities have gained interest again in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
