The Ministry of Health has detailed the list of countries from which patients can travel to receive medical treatment in Turkey, as well as the requirements that must be met and the treatments available.
Turkey will open its borders from May 20 to tourists from 31 countries for health tourism, announced a few days ago the Ministry of Health, which in addition to detailing which countries will be included established the conditions in which those tourists must travel and receive medical treatment in Turkey amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the information published in Turkish press, the Ministry of Health would have specified the requirements by which health tourists can enter Turkey, as well as how they should enter the hospital, how they should receive treatment and be discharged, and isolation standards while in the country, both for patients and their attendants.
The list of 31 countries from which tourists will be allowed to receive treatment in Turkey includes Iraq, Libya, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Greece, Ukraine, Russia, Djibouti, Algeria, Kosovo, Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Moldova, Somalia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Germany, the U.K., the Netherlands, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Regarding the treatments that will be offered in Turkey, they include orthopedics, traumatology, general surgery, pediatric surgery, urology, eye diseases, cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, surgical oncology, gynecologic oncology surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, brain and nerve surgery, hematology, intensive care, assisted-reproduction treatment applications, organ transplantation and bone marrow transplantation.
Patients and their attendants will undergo coronavirus tests
Foreign patients will be registered in an international health registry and, once their request is approved, the confirmation of approval will be sent to all related health institutions. Each patient can travel to Turkey accompanied by a maximum of two people.
All of them will undergo PCR tests to detect if they have the coronavirus when entering Turkey, and will have to pay a fee for this. If they have the possibility to carry out a PCR test to detect the virus in their countries of origin, they must prove by means of a certified document upon arrival in Turkey that they have undergone a PCR test no later than 48 hours before their trip, and that the result has been negative.
Any patient who travels for health tourism and cannot prove being free of the virus, or who tests positive after arriving in Turkey, will not obtain permission to enter the country. Once the patient and his or her attendants are admitted to Turkish territory, they will be transferred directly to the hospital where the appointment has been arranged, and they will not be able to stay anywhere else. Finally, the hospital will allocate an entire floor only for patients from abroad.
