Turkey‘s new foreign minister, Hakan Fidan, held a talk yesterday with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba, during which Fidan confirmed that the Turkish government is making preparations to send humanitarian aid after the disaster caused by the break down of the Kakhovka dam, which has caused the flooding of the city of Kherson and almost a hundred towns in the region, leaving thousands of people homeless and causing, so far, 5 deaths and 13 missing, while the WHO warns about the risk of cholera.
Although Russia accuses Kiev of having destroyed the dam, which has caused the waters in Kherson to rise up to 5 meters high, everything points to the fact that the Kakhovka dam – which is under Russian control – broke down after a large explosion, possibly caused by a controlled demolition from within. During the conversation between the two about the consequences of the flooding, Kuleba also proposed to the new foreign minister of Turkey to visit Ukraine.
