The President of Turkey, Tayyip Erdoğan, has appointed Hafize Gaye Erkan as thefirst woman in charge of the Turkish Central Bank, as published this Friday by the Official Gazette of the Republic, which also adds that the former president of the Central Bank, Şahap Kavcıoğlu, becomes the chairman of the Banking Supervision and Regulation Agency (BDDK). Erkan, who has beenco-CEO of First Republic Bank and managing director of Goldman Sachs, is 41 years old and has a degree in industrial engineering from Istanbul Bosphorus University, as well as a PhD in operations research and financial engineering from Princeton University (USA). She is the 5th governor that the Turkish Central Bank has in 4 years.
