The well-known gastronomy website TasteAtlas has ranked the traditional Turkish breakfast as the best in the world, placing it at the top of a ranking that includes 100 breakfasts from around the world, ranked according to the ratings of both experts and users.
“Traditional Turkish kahvaltı showcases an expansive array of dishes, typically blending a multitude of flavors, textures, and food categories. The table is adorned with both sweet and savory items, spanning cheeses, olives, vegetables, local breads, eggs, börek, baklava or other sweet pastries, and more, accompanied by hot beverages such as Turkish tea (çay)” says TasteAtlas, which ranks the traditional Turkish breakfast No. 1 in the ’Top 100 Breakfasts in the World” ranking with a score of 4.8 out of 5.
The reputable gastronomic website reminds that Turkish breakfast is a fundamental part of Turkey’s culinary culture. Renowned throughout the world for its variety and abundance, it is accompanied by tea and brings all diners together around the table, making it not only a culinary ritual but, above all, a social one. They are particularly abundant in inland, eastern and southeastern Anatolia, where a typical breakfast can consist of around 20 items, even among the poorest households.
But the ranking of the world’s best breakfasts published by TasteAtlas does not only include the traditional Turkish breakfast; other typical Turkish dishes are also mentioned, such as Gaziantep’s katmer (No. 9), lentil soup or mercimek çorbası (No. 12), honey and cream or bal kaymak (No. 28), börek (No. 43), gözleme (No. 46), tepsi böreği or tray börek (No. 67), Beyran soup or Beyran çorbası (No. 77), fig paste or incir uyutması (No. 80), traditional Ramadan bread or Ramazan pidesi (No. 93), and finally the delicious Menemen omelette (No. 98).
