Turkey, sea snot in the Marmara

Terrible images of the effects of marine mucilage in the Sea of Marmara

The effects of the plague of marine mucilage (or sea snot) on the Sea of Marmara are seen in in these terrible images. The coasts of Turkish provinces such as Istanbul, Bursa, Yalova, İzmit or Balıkesir appear covered by this viscous, dense and gelatinous substance – formed by the proliferation of phytoplankton and other microorganisms due to the warming of the sea and pollution – which suffocates and kills all marine life, which has led Turkey to initiate the largest mobilisation to clean the sea in its history.
