Marine mucilage or sea snot, which has been spreading for months on the surface of the Sea of Marmara, now threatens to wipe out all marine life in what would be an environmental tragedy. Mucilage is a whitish, dense and gelatinous mass that floats in the sea, formed by living and dead organic matter, whose appearance has grown exponentially in recent years in the Mediterranean, alarming scientists, who attribute this phenomenon to the increase in sea temperature due to climate change, and to pollution. This viscous substance hinders the movement of ships and ends up falling to the seabed, suffocating and killing all life.
