Turkey, sounds in a dry lake

Concern about strange sounds in a dry lake in Turkey

The people of Kemerdamları, a town in the Manisa province of western Turkey, are concerned about the strange sounds and the smell of flammable gas coming from the bottom of Lake Marmara, a lake that has dried up due to climate change. “We used to fish in the lake, but it has dried up. One day someone from the village warned us that a strange sound was coming from the depths,” says the village muhtar, explaining that a hole appeared in the lake and that when he threw a bottle of plastic it began to burn. The inhabitants of the place say they are scared and ask the authorities to investigate the events.
