Kuru fasulye is a stewed bean dish typical of Turkish cuisine. It is mainly made with white beans and olive oil. Let’s prepare this traditional homemade Turkish dish… Accompanied by a good rice.

Ingredients for 4 people

  • 200 g of beans
  • 200 g of beef (cut into 2-3 cm cubes)
  • 1 onion
  • 150 ml of olive oil
  • 5 tablespoons of tomato sauce
  • 3 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of pepper
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 200 ml of hot water

Preparation

Put the beans in a saucepan with cold but unsalted water. Cover and wait for a day.

The next day, put the beans in a pot and simmer them for 30 minutes until they are a little soft.

On the other hand, peel and chop the onion and wash it. Then prepare a pot with olive oil in which you should fry the chopped onion. When the onion is cooked and transparent, add the meat and fry for about 5 minutes.

Then add the tomato sauce and fry for a further 5 minutes.

Finally, add the pepper, salt, lemon juice and hot water and mix well, leaving it to cook for about 15 minutes over a medium heat.

When it comes to the boil, add the beans and continue cooking over a low heat for about 40 minutes.

Serve on a plate with pilav (Turkish rice).

Afiyet olsun! (Enjoy!)
