Fried mussels (in Turkish ‘midye tava’) are a typical Turkish snack consisting of battered and fried mussels, which are commonly found for sale at many street stalls in Istanbul and other Turkish cities.
Ingredients (for 10 people)
- 60 mussels (large, without shells)
- 2 cups of flour
For the batter
- 1 cup flour
- 1.5 glasses of beer
- 1.5 lt. vegetable oil
Preparation
Wash and drain the cleaned mussels. Leave them on absorbent paper. Dredge in flour. Whisk a glass of flour with 1.5 glasses of beer and a little salt to obtain a homogeneous cream. Heat the oil in a frying pan. Dredge the mussels in the batter and fry them in the frying pan until golden brown. Place them on absorbent paper. Add a little salt. Serve with the tarator sauce.
Preparation of the tarator sauce
Ingredients
- 200 g walnuts or pine nuts
- 3 slices of stale bread (soaked)
- 3 cloves of garlic (crushed)
- ½ glass of olive oil
- Juice of one lemon
- Salt
Preparation
Put all the ingredients in an electric blender and blend until smooth.
