The building known as Mehmet Emin Ağa’s house, a mansion located on the Bosphorus, the strait that divides Istanbul in two separating Asia from Europe, has been bought by a Turkish businessman who paid 200 million liras – around 7 million euros – according to Turkish press reports.
Located in the Kanlıca district, near the Fatih Mehmet Sultan Bridge (the second bridge over the Bosphorus), the mansion had initially been put up for sale at a price of 23 million euros, but this had to be reduced when no bids were received. Although Russian and Iranian tycoons were interested in the property, it was finally the Turkish businessman Ahmet Faruk Karslı, owner of the digital payments platform Papara, who bought the mansion,built in 1846 and restored in 2017 after it was reduced to ashes by a fire in 1905. The mansion recently hosted an exhibition by renowned Turkish artist Taner Ceylan.
