A contestant won the first prize during a gastronomic event organised a few days ago in Bursa, in northwestern Turkey, after managing to eat 15 metres of börek – a kind of pastry or pie typical of Turkish cuisine made of filo dough and filled with cheese, meat, potatoes or spinach – in just 10 minutes.
Organised by Hasan Acar, a well-known Turkish chef and Guinness World Record holder for creating the world’s longest börek (2 km long) in 2012, the 3rd edition of the Bursa Food Festival organised an open-air competition to see who could eat the most börek in a time limit of 10 minutes.
A total of 52 people took part in the unique competition, but in the end it was Ahmet Kılıç who managed to take first place in the contest after devouring no less than 15 metres of this tasty Turkish dish, winning 5 grams of gold as a prize, according to Turkish media reports. The contestants who finished in second and third place also won various gifts.
‘The festival was a lot of fun. Yesterday I took 4th place in the baklava eating contest, and today I took first place in the börek eating contest, beating my own record. I am very happy to be the champion,’ said the winner of the contest. Chef Hasan Acar highlighted the achievement of eating up to 15 metres of börek in just 10 minutes: ‘We are determined to keep this record in Bursa,’ he said.
