Turkish football club Beşiktaş suffered a humiliating defeat at home in the closing match of the 27th round of the Turkish Super League, played last night in Istanbul, in which the team led by the Norwegian coach Ole Gunnar Solskjær was left without the three points after being defeated by Gaziantep FK, even though the team from south-eastern Anatolia played with one player less in the final minutes of the match.
The first and only goal for the Black Eagles came in the 29th minute, when the referee didn’t hesitate to award a penalty kick for a nasty tackle by Bruno Viana on Rafa Silva, which also earned the Brazilian a yellow card. The penalty was converted without problems by Ciro Immobile, who beat Mustafa Bozan to the right – but who nevertheless had a great performance throughout the game – making it 1-0 on the scoreboard, which also was the score at the end of the first half.
Fifty-six minutes into the game, Emmanuel Boateng scored the equaliser, but it was, however, disallowed immediately by the referee who ruled it a handball by the Ghanaian player. But only 4 minutes later, Arda Kızıldağ equalised with an impressive header following a free kick on the edge of the area. In the 68th minute, Deian Sorescu and Emirhan Topçu were both shown yellow cards for an ugly confrontation on the touchline which, however, seemed to have been started by the Romanian with a shove at the Beşiktaş player.
A couple of minutes later, the home fans called for a penalty after Immobile went down in the area following a strange struggle, but the referee paid no attention to the incident. At 77 minutes of play, Gaziantep were reduced to ten men after Viana was sent off for a second yellow card, after the referee deemed a play in which he hit Masuaku to be a foul, despite the protests of the Brazilian’s teammates.
The last goal of the game and the one that would give victory to the team from south-eastern Turkey came 10 minutes later, when Furkan Soyalp got into the area and managed to score by slipping the ball between Mert Günok’s legs. The defeat keeps Beşiktaş – who seem unable to pick up the pace even with a new coach – fourth in the table with 44 points, but leaves them just one point ahead of Eyüpspor and even further behind Galatasaray, who has 68 points after winning on Sunday in Antalya.
