The Black Eagles have a advantage of 6 points from Galatasaray and 8 from Fenerbahçe. Beşiktaş only needs 4 points to be champion.
Beşiktaş broke all records this season by scoring 7 goals in the weekend’s match against Atakaş Hatayspor, and are actually close to win the league title, maintaining a comfortable lead against their immediate pursuers: Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor.
The Black Eagles comfortably dominated the entire match played on Saturday at the Vodafone Park stadium in Istanbul, although it was the Nigerian footballer Babajide Akintola who, in a clumsy attempt to clear the ball in the area during a corner kick, ended up scoring on his own goal when only 2 minutes of the game had elapsed.
During the remaining first half, another four more goals would arrive, two of them from Canadian Cyle Larin (minutes 11 and 14), who would also be the author later of another two goals in the second half (minutes 55 and 65).
French winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou would score 4-0 in the 38th minute after running into the area against a discouraged Hatayspor defence, who practically stayed watching; and Rıdvan Yılmaz would shoot in the area just two minutes before the break, making the 5-0 with which the players ended the first 45 minutes: a record in the club’s history.
A record win
This 7-0 is in fact the biggest result Beşiktaş has achieved this season; his previous record in the 2020-2021 season was a 6-0 last year against Rizespor, in which Larin again scored 4 goals. The previous time the Eagles left for home after scoring 7 goals was again against Rizespor, when they defeated the modest Black Sea team 7-2 in the 2018-2019 season.
With this victory by landslide, Beşiktaş is the clear leader in the league with 81 points, 6 more than Galatasaray, which on Sunday won a 2-0 victory against the Gençlerbirliği of Ankara, and 8 more than Fenerbahçe, that faces Erzurumspor this afternoon. With only three weeks remaining to close the season, the Black Eagles only need to add 4 more points to be crowned Super League champions.
