Beşiktaş literally thrashed Fenerbahçe in the classic Istanbul derby that was played yesterday afternoon at the Ülker stadium, a Fener stronghold that nevertheless conceded up to 4 goals from the Black Eagles, despite the fact that statistically the Yellow Canaries reached many more times on goal and actually scored the first goal of the game, work of Enner Valencia from a penalty (min. 41). However, the Ecuadorian missed another penalty in the second half (min. 52) which led to the expulsion of the Brazilian Welinton Souza Silva, and left Beşiktaş with one less player for the rest of the game.
The rest is history. In a matter of 4 minutes, and despite the expulsion of Silva, Cenk Tosun made the miracle and completely turned the game around scoring two goals – one with a header and another dribbling past the goalkeeper – (min. 58 and 62), leaving the morale of the local team very touched. Redmond with a right-footed shot from outside the area extended the lead at 75 minutes, and Aboubakar scored the 4th after Redmond’s pass, when the 90 minutes had already gone. İrfan Kahveci scored Fenerbahçe’s 2nd goal – which he didn’t even celebrate – already with the referee looking at the watch. Şenol Güneş thus achieved his 4th consecutive victory and his first as Beşiktaş manager at the stadium of Fenerbahçe, who retains 2nd place after the Istanbul derby but now only 2 points ahead of Beşiktaş.
