Konyaspor, Beşiktaş

Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe lose their pace in the league

Neither Beşiktaş nor Fenerbahçe were able to rise to the occasion in their respective matches on round 28 of the Turkish league, and while the Black Eagles continued to show a disastrous game and were defeated on their visit to Konya, Mourinho‘s team failed to take advantage of their scoring chances and could only draw against Samsunspor, moving further away from Galatasaray, who showed no mercy to Antalyaspor.

In a match played at their Ülker Stadium in Istanbul in which Fenerbahçe needed a win to keep up with the Süper Lig leaders, the Yellow Canaries clearly dominated possession and goal-scoring chances, but the score remained the same even after Marius Mouandilmadji was sent off in the 75th minute for touching’ the referee when he was protesting that the latter had failed to signal a foul. With the draw, Fenerbahçe lose two valuable points and falls to within nine points of the leaders, although with a game less played.

For its part, Beşiktaş continues to suffer from its problems in play and was narrowly defeated away to Konyaspor, despite the fact that the home team were reduced to ten men after Melih Bostan was sent off after 27 minutes for a direct red card by the VAR decision, after the referee had previously shown him a yellow card for a very tough challenge on Paulista. Even so, Uğurcan Yazğılı scored the winning goal for Konyaspor in the final moments of the first half. The home team would lose another player after Ndao was sent off for a second yellow after 64 minutes; but even so, Beşiktaş was unable to find a way to beat Deniz Ertaş.

If Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe did not perform well in front of their fans, the same cannot be said of Galatasaray, who thrashed Antalyaspor at their stadium thanks to a hat trick from Osimhen and a penalty scored by Álvaro Morata. The Lions thus consolidate their lead with 71 points and without yet knowing defeat, and caress the title with only 10 matchdays left to play in the 2024-2025 season.
