Some 106,000 flats and houses were sold last March in Turkey, representing a 21.4% drop in home sales compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the latest data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), which also recorded a 16.5% decrease in properties purchased through mortgages, which now represent 24% of the total. Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir continue to be the provinces with the most home sales. 3.2% of the apartments and houses sold in March (3,400) were bought by foreigners, mainly Russians (1,175), Iranians (472), Iraqis (165) and Ukrainians (160), with Antalya (1,324 homes) being their preferred destination, followed by Istanbul (1,090) and Mersin (240).
