Turkey’s first domestically produced smartphones, developed by defence giant ASELSAN in collaboration with Türk Telekom and TTT Innovation, are set to be launched on the market in early 2027. The plan includes a total of three smartphone models, amongst them a budget version aimed at the general public and a more advanced premium model, all featuring proprietary software and a long battery life.
New details regarding the domestic mobile phone project developed by ASELSAN, Türk Telekom and TTT Innovation have emerged in recent hours. Aydın Erkoç, chairman of the Turkish World Business Council (Türk Dünyası İş Konseyi), outlined the current status of the initiative during a meeting with a group of journalists, as reported by the news channel CNN Türk.
According to the information provided by Erkoç, the first models developed are scheduled to be unveiled during the first quarter of 2027. A total of three models are planned, one of which is designed specifically for public sector employees. The entry-level model will be priced to make it affordable for a wide range of users.
Satellite technology for emergencies
All devices will incorporate a satellite antenna designed to ensure communications during natural disasters and emergency situations such as earthquakes. Production of the phones was initially planned to take place in Istanbul, and the project aims to gradually increase the proportion of in-house software developed in Türkiye. Deliveries of the encrypted phone model, developed specifically for use by public sector employees, will begin shortly.
The project to develop a national mobile phone began approximately three years ago, but work has accelerated thanks to the collaboration between Türk Telekom and ASELSAN. The aim is for the devices to incorporate features capable of competing with the iPhone and meeting the needs of users in Turkey.
Erkoç also commented on some of the phones’ common features. The devices will be water- and dust-resistant, whilst aspects such as the power of the processor, memory capacity and battery life will meet current needs, although these details have not yet been finalised. Another stated objective is to make the new smartphones – at least in their standard version – available to a wide user base through an affordable price.
Domestic software integrated with TOGG cars
Given that the operating system and software for the new smartphone will also be developed in Turkey, another of the project’s main goals is for the software on these mobile phones to integrate seamlessly with the Turkish TOGG electric cars. As Erkoç explained, the phone’s user interface is designed to be fully compatible with the digital ecosystem and the state-of-the-art interface of all TOGG vehicles.
