Majra, a 2-year-old Bosnian baby girl who was deaf at birth as a result of neonatal meningitis, was able to hear her mother’s voice for the first time after being treated by doctors in Turkey. Doctors in Bosnia had told the Delic family that the baby would have to wait for an operation after being 5 years old to be able to hear again; without losing hope, her parents decided to travel to Turkey, where the baby recovered her hearing thanks to a cochlear implant. “For the first time in two years, Majra looked at me when I said her name.It was incredible, I’m very happy,” said Anisa, the mother of the little girl, still excited. According to studies, deaf children who receive cochlear implants before the age of 2 do not lose communication skills.
